BGB Motorsports Finishes 10th In Canada
After Losing Fuel Mileage Battle

August 17, 2010 (Ormond Beach, FL) – For the BGB Motorsports family, fans and followers that aren’t superstitious, Friday’s the 13th’s 2010 Gran Prix de Trois Rivières was nothing more than a day of unfortunate circumstance.  The team’s #38 BRM Watches/Laps.com Cayman S of Guy Cosmo and Jean-Francois Dumoulin fell 1 lap short on fuel, as Dumoulin ran in 3rd place during the closing laps of the race; teammate Keith Carroll’s #23 Racer’s Roast Porsche Cayman S sustained heavy damage during a 1st lap incident with another competitor, with codriver Duncan Ende foregoing any laps.  The race’s ending was dictated by fuel mileage, as cars slowed down running out of gas on the last lap, but still finishing.  Carrying the smallest fuel tank in the field at 17.5 gallons, while larger V8 BMWs, Mustangs Camaros are permitted as much as 25% more fuel than the Cayman, the podium finish fell out of reach with minutes to go.

After qualifying his Porsche in 21st place and without having ever driven on the famous, tight 1.51 mile street circuit, Keith Carroll’s day was over even before it began when contact with another competitor sent him into the wall during the opening lap of competition.  Carroll was alright, albeit a bit sore.  Damaged heavily, it’s unlikely the car will race again.

Scheduled as a 2 hour race to end in the dark under the lights, this year’s 2010 GP3R was highlighted by Guy Cosmo’s moving up into the 2nd spot during the first half hour of the event.  Hounding the race leading Ford Mustang of Jack Roush, Jr., while holding steady in 2nd place, Cosmo and BGB pitted for fuel on the same lap as nearly the entire rest of the field.  As Cosmo’s codriver Dumoulin rejoined the competition, the local hometown hero advanced up to the 5th spot quickly.

The latter stages of the race ran caution free without interruption, as all but one of the top 8 cars executed the same fuel strategy.  While this promotes good racing for the fans, it removed what little opportunity the BGB crew had to complete the race without another stop to pit road for more fuel.  During the final minutes of the race, several cars slowed, running low on fuel, but carrying enough to at least complete the race.  With Dumoulin out of gas on the backside of the track, on the last lap, the team had to settle for a 10th place finish.  Team manager John Tecce had more to add:

“It’s disappointing.  All year long you fight for 10th place finishes.  You get up front, and you want podium finishes.  Lots of circumstances led to our being able to run two professional drivers in the car with both Guy and JF together, and we’re very fortunate to have that opportunity.  We came to do well.  It stings when it doesn’t go the way you wanted it to.  We’ve got one more shot at a podium at Utah and will be fighting hard for redemption.”
