Mixed Finish For BGB At Virginia 4 Hour Finale

For Immediate Release

(Alton, VA, USA – October 5, 2009)  After 4 hours of hard fought, mutli-class racing at VIRginia International Raceway, it was a day of mixed results in the BGB camp.  Scott Russell and Guy Cosmo delivered their best finish of 2009 with a 7th, for their 3rd time running in the PerformanceDrink.com Porsche 997. Teammates David Riddle and Kris Wilson, however, were forced to retire their #26 C-Max Racing Porsche 997 when their engine expired entering the 3rd hour of competition.

Saturday’s qualifying session yielded sound starting positions for both Porsche teammates, as Kris Wilson qualified 7th, the 2nd highest starting Porsche; fellow teammate Scott Russell started further back in 17th place, as he continued to get more acclimated to VIR’s full course, having only run motorcycles on the North Course layout.

As the green flag fell on cooler climates for this year’s longest race, the start was clean and without issue.  Wilson was able to keep his Porsche within site of the leaders, nearly running times on pace with them for the second half of his stint.  When the race’s first full course caution period occurred near the 45 minute mark, Wilson brought his Porsche to pit road for the driver change with car owner David Riddle.  Running an alternate race strategy, Scott Russell didn’t pit for his driver change with Guy Cosmo until after the first hour of racing.  Russell had been getting faster and faster during his stint as he continued to figure out the nuances of the tricky 3.27 mile daunting road course, producing his fastest laps of the weekend at the end of a solid clean 1st stint.  Known for being very technical and very fast at the same time, VIR is a track where a driver learns something new every time he or she runs there.

The second and third hours however, were not without a few on-track frustrations, as some of the other Mustangs began to get impatient with their competitors. David Riddle returned to pit road to deliver the car back to Kris Wilson, content to not have to try and outmuscle some of the higher horsepower competitors.  Wilson returned to duty, albeit with less than favorable conditions as some of the beating and banging that went on while he was out of the car led to some activity that resulted in a broken sway bar drop link.  While the car’s handling was less than optimal, Wilson wouldn’t have to endure much more, as his motor let go shortly thereafter at the end of the long 4,000 foot back straightaway at VIR.

Wilson’s teammate Guy Cosmo was still hard at it in his #83 Porsche as the race’s clock continued to wind down approaching the 4 hour mark.  Cosmo had just brought his PerformanceDrink.com Porsche to pit road for his final fuel stop, only to get called for a pit lane speeding infraction while sandwiched between two other GS class competitors.  Cosmo’s being the last car on the lead lap saved him from falling back further in the order.  The West Palm Beach resident brought the car home in a strong 7th place finish, his best result to date with Scott Russell driving a BGB Porsche as part of a late-season 3 race deal to keep the two fresh.

This event completed the 2009 Koni Sports Car Challenge Series where BGB Motorsports ran a limited schedule running two Porsche 997s for drivers David Riddle, Kris Wilson, Scott Russell and Guy Cosmo for the final races of 2009, after sitting out every race since the opening round at Daytona.

BGB Motorsports is an ambitious, professional motorsports business.  The team’s facility is located less than 15 miles from Daytona International Speedway and the headquarters for the Grand American Road Racing Association. The team operates as a customer oriented business, running cars under the Grand American Road Racing, Sports Car Club of America and Porsche Club of America sanctioning bodies.
