BGB Porsches Finish 4th & 6th
North Of The Border On
Trois Rivieres Street Circuit

For Immediate Release

(Ormond Beach, FL, USA - August 23, 2008)  With their pair of their Porsche 997s crossing the finish line in 4th and 6th place during Sunday’s Koni Challenge Series race, BGB Motorsports returned to their form of running up front and finishing strongly.  Teammates Jon Miller and Craig Stanton followed up a stout 2nd place finish at Iowa Speedway last weekend, with a 4th place finish on the tight streets of Trois Rivieres, Quebec.  Local drivers, teammates and brothers Louis-Philippe and Jean-Francois Dumoulin finished just two spots behind them in 6th place to record two top 10s for the team.  Due to the abusive nature of the downtown Trois Rivières street circuit, most competitors were glad that the race had been shortened from last year’s distance.  BGB was not one of them, however, as both Craig Stanton and JF Dumoulin felt they had plenty of fight left for further advancement to the front; the teammates felt that a longer race may have had a different impact on the results.  The finish for the #83 PerformanceDrink/Weeden Consultants Porsche of Miller and Stanton reduced some of the gap to the championship leaders as they sit in 4th place in the Team Championship; Porsche remains in 3rd place in the Manufacturer’s Championship trailing BMW by 6 points and Ford by another 2 points.  With three races remaining and a tight points battle, this year’s championship winner will not be decided until the last lap of the last race of the season.

Saturday’s qualifying session landed the #83 Porsche of Jon Miller in 9th place and teammate Louis-Phillippe Dumoulin’s #38 Porsche one row behind in 11th.  Both Miller and Dumoulin were frustrated at the session’s activities, as the two attempted to find clear track during a 15 minute session that was interrupted twice for two incidents.  Going faster and faster with each lap, another half a second would have landed the pair in 3rd and 4th respectively, but the session expired before it could happen.

As Sunday’s race got underway, Miller and Dumoulin attempted to settle into a groove before it was time to pit for tires, fuel and a driver change.  Despite being knocked around by some Mustangs, both drivers settled in and began to go to work.  It was however, at this point, that some unfortunate circumstances manipulated what would have been a flawless pit strategy.  Right after LP Dumoulin received the order to come to the pits, a punctured tire on his #38 Porsche created some unanticipated excitement.  The BGB crew was able to get his brother JF Dumoulin back out in a position to capitalize on a caution period and get back into the fight.  With the #38 full of fuel for the rest of the race, it was time to service the #83 Porsche.  During the lap that Jon Miller was instructed to head to pit road, the caution flag came out.  Miller was forced to go around the track again, as he headed to pit road to hand his car over to codriver Craig Stanton.  Under yellow, Stanton returned to racing in 6th place and the caution period allowed JF Dumoulin to return to the lead lap.  With enough fuel and tires to last the remaining race distance, both BGB Porsches were given orders to drive as hard as possible.  Craig Stanton quickly moved up into the 4th spot where he continued to shadow the top 3 cars.  A late race caution looked like it might create a 4 lap sprint to the end, but it was a sprint that wasn’t quite long enough.  Running out of time, Stanton settled for a well deserved 4th place finish.  Teammate Jean-Francois Dumoulin showed just how hard someone can drive in front of their home crowd as he brought his car up through the field from 19th place to finish a solid 6th.

Grand-Am Koni Challenge teams have less than 2 weeks to prepare for round 8 of the Koni Challenge Series, as teams visit the newly constructed New Jersey Motorsports Park.  The combined field of Grand Sport and Street Tuner cars will take to the track at 8:45am on Sunday August 31st with live timing and scoring available at http://www.grand-am.com/livetiming/

BGB Motorsports is an ambitious, professional motorsports business.  The team’s facility is located less than 15 miles from Daytona International Speedway and the headquarters for the Grand American Road Racing Association. Entering their 5th season of Grand Am Koni Challenge competition, the team is looking to improve on last year’s 3rd place finish in the Team and Driver’s Championship.  BGB operates as a customer oriented business, running cars under the Grand American Road Racing, Sports Car Club of America and Porsche Club of America sanctioning bodies.  This season will be the team’s sophomore year with Porsche’s latest 911 chassis, the 997 Carrera.
