Porsches Lay Low During Pre-Race Testing
At Barber Motorsports Park

For Immediate Release

(Leeds, Alabama, USA - July 22, 2008)  The 5th round of the Grand-Am Koni Challenge Series got underway today at Barber Motorsports Park with a full day of pre-race testing for competitors.  Despite leading the Manufacturer’s Championship following a win at the previous round at Watkins Glen International Raceway, Porsche was not at the top of the time sheets at their sponsored event and home to their Porsche Driving Experience school.  Several BMW M3s and Mustangs proved strong in some greasy conditions while others struggled a bit with a lineup of sway bar and spring changes up and down pit road.  A few Porsches did hover near the top spots on the time sheets, but the familiar green and black #83 BGB Porsche was not one of them.  Missing from the time sheets entirely, was the team’s racing winning #38 Porsche:

“We’re pulling the entry on the #38 after not being able to secure any replacement customers to fill in for its originally intended lineup that tested the car here in March with us.  BGB is a business and with the 4 races in the next 6 weeks, in this economy, we’re trying to prepare for an interesting summer.  It’s really flattering actually because everyone on the team is doing what they can to help out as we find ourselves in contention for a championship.  That’s how badly everyone wants to win this thing.  With only one car rented, we had to leave a few people home and our engineer was one of them.  I was reminded why he’s a lot more suited to play this role that I had to play at the end of last year.  I haven’t been doing this long enough to be the old wise man.  Despite my best efforts to get it wrong, we’ll be on our game tomorrow,” commented Team Manager John Tecce.

Teammates Jon Miller and Craig Stanton are looking forward to this weekend’s race in their PerformanceDrink/Weeden Consultants Porsche 997.  Following a 13th place finish at Watkins Glen, Jon, Craig and their #83 Porsche sit in 3rd place in the Team Championship.  The two were here for a few days of testing in March and left very satisfied and therefore feel pretty confident about their plan of attack for this weekend.  With another day of practice scheduled before Saturday’s race for their interim engineer to get his stuff together, it’s inevitable that the two will find their way back to the top of the time sheets.

Qualifying for Saturday’s race is at 4:40pm tomorrow afternoon.  Saturday’s green flag will drop at 2:15pm for a race that will end before the sooner of 250 miles or 2.5 hours.  Live timing and scoring information is available at http://www.grand-am.com/livetiming.

BGB Motorsports is an ambitious, professional motorsports business.  The team’s facility is located less than 15 miles from Daytona International Speedway and the headquarters for the Grand American Road Racing Association. Entering their 5th season of Grand Am Koni Challenge competition, the team is looking to improve on last year’s 3rd place finish in the Team and Driver’s Championship.  BGB operates as a customer oriented business, running cars under the Grand American Road Racing, Sports Car Club of America and Porsche Club of America sanctioning bodies.  This season will be the team’s sophomore year with Porsche’s latest 911 chassis, the 997 Carrera.
