BGB Ends 2007 With String Of Podiums;
BGB Teammates Only Porsches In
Top 10 At VIR Finale

(Ormond Beach, FL- October 24, 2007) As the checkered flag fell in front of a setting sun at Virginia International Raceway, six hours of racing ended along with the 2007 Koni Challenge season. On the last lap however, the racing was still at full tilt as Craig Stanton recovered to pass Tom Long’s BMW M3 for 2nd place. Neither Stanton nor Long was in striking distance of race winner Bill Auberlen’s BMW M3.

VIR has been kind to the folks at BGB in the past and this trip was no different. Teammates Tim Traver and Mikel Miller arrived at VIR looking to repeat their 2006 victory. During Sunday’s race the California based duo ran strongly to a 10th place finish. The two earned their way back to the lead lap twice, as they attempted to erase some misfortune in the pits. Codrivers Eric Lux and Drew Staveley enjoyed their first weekend with BGB as they brought home their Porsche 996 in 15th place. The usually reliable Porsche transmission gave up on the two at the half way point, but Lux and Staveley did not. Only 4 Porsches finished in the top 15 after 6 long hours of racing. When you consider the fact that three of those Porsches were fielded by BGB, one might wonder if Lux and Staveley were just doing what they thought was expected of them.

Team manager John Tecce had the following to say:

“It’s frustrating. We finished 3rd in an extremely competitive professional championship and I’m still wondering what we could have done to win that last race. I guess you’re never satisfied. The team itself changed a lot this year and I’m proud to be part of a group that can adapt like that. I’m also grateful to Jim Hamblin, Stu Tetreault and Steve Bernheim. Their performances on track put Craig in contention for the Championship and gave us something we could really work towards.”

The #38 Performance Drink Porsche of BGB Motorsports ended their season with three consecutive trips to the podium. During 2007, the #38 BGB Porsche averaged more points per race than any other car except the Championship winners. Since Limerock, Hugh Plumb and Craig Stanton together averaged no less than 4 more points per race than their competition by scoring 7 straight top 10 finishes. It was not enough however to cover the 14 point deficit to the BMW M3 of Jep Thornton and Jeffrey Segal from Automatic Racing. Craig Stanton finished 3rd in the Driver’s Championship with codriver Hugh Plumb taking 5th place honors. Hugh Plumb led more race laps than any other GS driver in 2007. BGB Motorsports completed every session of the 2007 season and recorded zero mechanical DNFs.

“Our ability to keep the pressure on at the end of the season made for a great show and a great year,” added John Tecce. “While the thought of starting a new season scares me, I have to remind myself that our team at the shop and at the track is the reason that we had zero mechanical DNFs and completed every session on track this year. During 2006 and 2007 BGB entries have taken the green flag 48 times; during this time we recorded only 4 DNFs. All were the result of contact with other competitors.”
