BGB Returns To VIR To Repeat 6 Hour
Victory And Advance In Championship

For Immediate Release

(Ormond Beach, FL- October 5, 2007) At 6:00pm on Sunday evening the sun will begin to fall around the same time that the checkered flag will; 6 long hours of racing will end as will the inaugural season for the Grand-Am Koni Challenge Series. BGB Motorsports will have to wait until Sunday night to see if they can repeat victory at the 6 hour VIR finale and secure the penultimate spot in the 2007 Team Championship. The #38 BGB Porsche sits in 4th place, 2 points behind the #37 JBS Racing Ford Mustang and 14 points behind the #55 Supercuts Racing Ford Mustang. A win for the #38 Porsche would have to be accompanied by a 2nd place finish for the #37 Mustang and a 10th place finish for the #55 Mustang.

Hugh Plumb and Craig Stanton return to drive together one final time during 2007 to see if they can make it happen in the #38 BGB Motorsports Performance Drink 997. Since joining BGB in June, Plumb has put on some excellent drives. His stints have delivered the car to Stanton in a position to execute 6 straight top 10 finishes and 2 consecutive podiums for the two. While mathematically unable to win the Championship, 3rd and 2nd place finishes at Trois Rivières and Miller Motorsports Park have kept the duo in contention for the 2nd spot.

Teammates Tim Traver and Mikel Miller have been looking forward to this event too and are excited for this race for their own reasons. Traver and Miller won last year’s rain soaked battle in the dark at VIR allowing Porsche to secure the 2006 Grand-Am Cup Manufacturer’s Title. The two are chomping at the bit to defend their victory. Another win would certainly help the feeling of disappointment surrounding this year’s season. The codrivers had a pair of consecutive top 10 finishes with Tim Traver qualifying a season’s best of 6th at Lime Rock in May. Other notable accomplishments are some strong drives from deeper in the field for Mikel Miller when strategy didn’t necessarily go his way. To reiterate, a win would alleviate some pain.

Adding to the BGB Porsche stable this weekend are Eric Lux and Drew Staveley in the Rembrandt Charms Porsche 996. While the 996 is the previous iteration of the current Porsche 911, it can’t be ruled out. Last year BGB won with a 996 and Eric Lux and Wolf Henzler put on a dominant display early on leading for several laps. Lux and Staveley drove the Racer’s Edge Pontiac GXP.R at Barber Motorsports Park in July in the Rolex GT class and both look forward to joining forces again.

Sunday’s six hour Koni Challenge finale starts at 12:00pm. Qualifying for Sunday’s race is on Saturday morning at 9:50am. The 37car GS field could potentially cover up to 500 miles during Sunday’s long race that will most likely be a battle of outright speed, strategy and execution on pit road. The weather has always been a wild card at VIR with rain playing a role 4 of the last 6 times. For this one, anything is possible.
