2nd Place Finish For BGB Keeps Championship
Tight Entering 6-Hour Koni Challenge Finale

(Ormond Beach, FL- September 18, 2007) The fans at Miller Motorsports Park and those that tuned into Speed TV’s coverage this past weekend got a great show. The 1000KM Rolex finale came down to the final lap after almost 7 hours of racing. The action during Friday’s Koni Challenge race was even tighter. The #38 Porsche of Hugh Plumb and Craig Stanton of BGB Motorsports passed the #41 Racer’s Group Porsche of Andy Lally and Ted Ballou as they ran out of gas on the last turn. At 4.5 miles in length, Miller is the longest road course in the U.S., but apparently the last 500 yards are the most challenging. From the exit of the final turn to the start/finish the entire finishing order changed as the #25 Fiorano/C-Max Porsche of David Riddle and Kris Wilson also passed Lally for 3rd. Top spot honors went to the #97 Turner Motorsports BMW M3.

The goal for the weekend was to get on the podium again and avoid drama or mistakes. Season long codrivers Tim Traver and Mikel Miller did not have a car to race since their Porsche is still in the Intensive Care Unit at Sunshine Collision Memorial in Boca Raton, FL. Flowers and donations are much appreciated. Despite not having a car, Traver and Miller went to Salt Lake City to support the BGB team in their attempt to tighten the gap in the Championship as they sat in 4th place. BGB had to finish on the podium and the 2nd and 3rd place Mustangs had to finish fairly far back in order to have a realistic shot at 2nd place in the Championship entering the last race of the season.

In the opening round of testing, Craig Stanton put the #38 Porsche in the top 3 to try and set the mood. Things were looking good. Later that evening the car improved again while most other competitors did not improve their times. Thursday’s attempts to refine the car further for qualifying weren’t successful as the team’s interim engineer didn’t prepare the best qualifying car. Hugh Plumb qualified in 12th and started the race disappointed, intent on driving to the front. He did just that. Plumb drove to 7th place by lap 2; he then drove to 3rd place by lap 5. At the end of his stint Plumb delivered the car to Stanton in 1st place. As Stanton proceeded to string as many fast laps together as possible the data showed that BGB had prepared a car was well suited for the race and maybe just not for qualifying. When the checkered flag fell, BGB’s 3rd place finish turned into a 2nd and their Porsche had the fastest average race lap over 30 other competitors.

BGB would like to thank teammates Mikel Miller and Tim Traver for their support this past weekend. Miller found that he might have another career in Motorsports as an announcer, calling a great Koni Challenge race from the booth upstairs all while keeping the fans well informed of the BGB Porsche and BGB’s ability to prepare great cars. Tim Traver on the other hand showed that he’s learned some race strategy during his tenure at BGB and that he can do well from both sides of the pit wall.

The 2.5 hour Koni Challenge Series race from Miller Motorsports Park will be broadcast on Speed TV this Sunday, September 23 at 4:00pm, EST. The race will air again on Tuesday at 2:00pm and Thursday at 3:00am for those people that work the night shift at Waffle House. Be sure to catch the broadcast as the Speed TV crew spent the whole race in the BGB pits with multiple interviews.

The team returns to Virginia International Raceway on Sunday October 7. The #09 Automatic Racing BMW M3 of Jep Thornton and Jeffrey Segal appear to have a mathematical lock on 1st place in the 2007 Team Championship but the 2nd spot is still available. BGB looks forward to returning to VIR where Tim Traver and Mikel Miller won last year’s 6 hour rain soaked run into the night as both BGB Porsches set the pace during the final laps of the race.
