Two Cars In The Top 10 In Two Races–
Can BGB Make It Three In A Row?

For Immediate Release

(DAYTONA BEACH, FL - July 7, 2007) The BGB Motorsports crew arrives at Watkins Glen International Raceway this weekend for the 8th round of the 2007 Koni Challenge Series. Thanks to consistent finishes brought on by swift pit stops and sound race strategy at the last two rounds, the #38 Performance Drink Porsche 997 sits in the 5th spot in the team championship while teammates Tim Traver and Mikel Miller are pushing their #83 Performance Drink / Jetalia Porsche back towards the top 10.

A minor incident in practice with the #38 Porsche put the BGB team to the test that resulted in a thrash to get the car ready for qualifying. As usual the team rose to the occasion. Hugh Plumb qualified his Porsche in the 16th spot as the session wound down. Teammate Tim Traver, suffering from a reduced amount of track time, was able to qualify his Porsche two spots behind his teammate in 18th.

The first half of the race ran somewhat caution free with the first caution period occurring at the 1 hour mark. Both BGB cars elected to stay out while the rest of the field pitted for what looked like a two stop strategy. As the field cycled thru, the #38 Porsche was back out front in first place for the first time since last year with Hugh Plumb at the helm adding to his number of race laps led. Plumb has led more GS laps this year than any other GS driver in the Koni series. Hugh’s teammate Tim Traver followed closely behind in 5th place waiting patiently for his opportunity to hand his car over to teammate Mikel Miller. Suffering from a deteriorating brake pedal, Traver did an excellent job holding his position among the stronger BMWs.

Ten minutes later the yellow came out again as both BGB cars came down pit road for their pit stops. The BGB strategy appeared that it would pay off; a green race would deliver both BGB Porsches in the top 5. That wasn’t the case though as a series of caution periods relegated both cars to 6th and 8th. Both Craig Stanton and Mikel Miller successfully held off hard charging BMWs and Mustangs to deliver two of their best finishes yet this year.

This weekend marks the return of the Koni series to the famed Watkins Glen track in support of the Indy Racing League. Qualifying for this weekend’s 3 hour race at Watkins Glen is at 5:45pm on Friday afternoon. The green flag for Saturday’s race falls at 3:30pm. Living timing and scoring is available on the web at http://www.grand-am.com. Stay tuned for details.

BGB Motorsports is an ambitious, professional Motorsports business. Last year BGB Motorsports won the 6 hour VIR finale, securing the manufacturers title for Porsche Cars North America. Based in Daytona Beach, Florida, the team operates as a customer-oriented business, running cars under the Grand Am Cup, SCCA and Porsche Club of America sanctioning bodies.
