Top Porsche Team In Koni Challenge
Championship Looks To Turn Up The Heat
For Immediate Release
(DAYTONA BEACH, FL – June 16, 2007) With the #38 Performance Drink Porsche 997 occupying the 7th spot in the 2007 Team Championship, BGB Motorsports continues to hang onto their top 10 spot in a Championship currently dominated by Mustangs and BMWs. With only one other Porsche in the top 10 in team points, this is a feat that has been made possible by a team that will not give up. The bad mojo that struck the BGB team at the opening round of the 2007 Koni Challenge Series continues to rear its head however. Almost every time a BGB Porsche claws its way up the order during a race another competitor’s bumper or fender has different plans for them.
Coming off a fantastic qualifying and a great opening stint at Lime Rock Park, Tim Traver is looking forward to Mosport:
“I’ve never been to Mosport but it looks amazing. I’m disappointed about what happened at Lime Rock but we’ll look to try again in Canada. Mikel Miller and the BGB crew had the car dialed in pretty well and if we can continue, we might have something.”
Traver qualified 6th at Lime Rock and maintained his position in the top 10 until he was punted in turn 1 by another competitor. Two laps later he was forced to return to the pits so that the BGB crew could repair a damaged control arm. Back out in about 20 minutes, resiliency of the BGB crew allowed Mikel Miller to get out and gather some much needed points.
Since the bearer of bad news never rides alone, Stu Tetreault was also a victim of contact that ended his race. Tetreault qualified 28th but was working his way up to the top 20 when he was forced off track and into the tires. Again the BGB crew repaired a car that most teams would have parked so that Craig Stanton, who had put the #38 BGB Porsche 5th in Team Points, could return to gather valuable championship points. Team manager John Tecce had more to add:
“This is getting old fast. Two cars were taken out, one of which was still a contender in the Championship. This is the stuff that kills a team’s morale. We’ll keep at it but it’s a totally different season now for us.”
The BGB Porsches head to Mosport tomorrow for the 6th round of the 2007 Koni Challenge Series. While Lime Rock has come and gone the team will look to up their game and send a message out to the rest of their competitors that they might be down but they’re certainly not out.
Qualifying for this weekend’s 400 kilometer race at Mosport is at 10:45am on Saturday morning. The green flag for Saturday’s race falls at 1:15pm. Living timing and scoring is available on the web at http://www.grand-am.com. Stay tuned for details.
