No Rest For The Weary As The
Koni Run Westward Begins

(DAYTONA BEACH, FL - April 19, 2007) With the layout of the 2007 schedule consisting of multiple back-to-back events this year, the racing doesn’t end when the checkered flag falls. Most teams packed up and wasted no time getting on the road towards Iowa Speedway for this weekend’s 3rd round of the 2007 Koni Challenge Series. Some teams are using the first leg of the Koniball Run to Iowa Speedway to practice for the 3100 mile trip from Laguna Seca to Limerock that they’ll have 3 days to complete in May. One thing that makes something like this possible is when you have a roster of drivers like Tim Traver, Mikel Miller, Stewart Tetreault and Craig Stanton. The #38 and #83 BGB Porsche 997s finished 7th and 15th respectively without a scratch after 2.5 hours of hard, humid, and damp racing in Miami on Sunday.

During Saturday’s qualifying session for the GS class Tim Traver showed that while his 1st full season of GS competition may have been about learning, the 2nd season is about execution. Looking to put the opening Daytona round behind him, Tim Traver delivered his gratitude to the BGB crew for building another great 997. Qualifying in the 9th spot, Traver started ahead of all of the other Porsches. Returning for another weekend with BGB to drive with Craig Stanton was Stu Tetreault; benefiting from some good instruction by his BGB teammates, Tetreault qualified the #38 BGB 997 in the 28th spot, cutting some 2 seconds off of his prior lap times.

The ominous clouds that threatened most of the eastern seaboard last weekend stretched down as far as Homestead as grey skies and wind surrounded the speedway before the start of the 2.5 hour GS race. Determined to learn from past experiences the BGB crew was reminded of the Barber Motorsports event in 2006 where the race was ended prematurely. The orders were given to both teams to put their heads and drive flat out and that’s what happened. Both in the pits and on track the BGB team was all business as usual with sound strategy, pit stops and excellent stints by both cars and both teams. Team Manager John Tecce had more to add:

“We’d all like to see our cars on the podium but with the level of competition in this series, consistent finishes with cars that are unscathed add to the recipe for success. We can pack up immediately for Iowa without having to repair anything. Our cars are coming along and it’s because we have the right people driving them and great guys working on them. Mikel and Craig were running some of the fastest laps in the rain so we’re confident about the new car.”

Less than 100 hours after they packed everything up, the team will unload everything in Iowa on Thursday to get back to work. The inaugural Grand-Am weekend at Iowa Speedway will wrap up with a 400 kilometer GS race that starts at 3:00pm on the brand new 1.3 mile roval. The team’s driver lineup from Miami will return as well with the addition of a new engineer as the BGB crew continues to learn about Porsche’s new 997 chassis.
