Promising Weekend for BGB Ruined by
Crash and Full Course Caution Laps

For Immediate Release

(DAYTONA BEACH, FL - January 27, 2007) When you try to race 100 cars on a track with 3.5 miles of road to share, you're bound to run into complications. The opening round of the 2007 Koni Challenge Series delivered some of the worst luck for BGB Motorsports since the team's inception. BGB closed the final session of the 2007 Daytona Test Days with 3 Porsches in the top 5. This sound performance by the team with two undeveloped cars and sorted 996 gave them high hopes for the Fresh From Florida 3 Hour Koni opening race.

Thursday's first practice was damp and the team elected to skip the session. During the 2nd official practice of the weekend Mikel Miller put the #83 Performance Drink Porsche 997 in the 2nd spot, ten spots ahead of the other 997s. That lap instilled additional confidence for the team for Friday's race. That evening, Tim Traver qualified his car in a very respectable 15th place in the 48 car GS field. Returning to drive with BGB and qualify the #38 Porsche 996 was Jim Hamblin. Teamed with Craig Stanton, Jim qualified the car in 27th despite having only a handful of laps prior to qualifying.

When the race began Tim Traver continued to show that he's really improved over the last year with BGB. Traver found himself in 9th place on lap 3. While most drivers would have been elated to be up in 9th I bet Tim probably wishes now he was nowhere near the on track situation involving the Turner Motorsports M3 and the Automatic Racing M3. The result of this great misfortune is that Tim was involved in a crash that sent his brand new Porsche 997 into the wall exiting the bus stop. BGB's race was over before it started and it's truly a shame because there's no doubt that Mike Miller would have driven that Porsche to the front during his stint. Preliminary analysis of the extent of the damage does not look good. Team Manager John Tecce had more to add: "We couldn't get the Speed Channel feed in our pits so I had to run down to Synergy's pits to watch. In retrospect I'm glad I didn't see the race on the TV because every time I did look I was appalled at the display of driving from a lot of our competitors. This is really a shame because the guys in our shop worked all through Christmas and New Years and every single hour up until 8:00am Wednesday to deliver this car for the race. There's a chance this car might not ever race again. This is the first car BGB has ever built and we showed in practice that it's clearly competitive."

For the #38 996, Friday's race looked promising. Jim Hamblin had a great opening stint making his way to the top 10. He did however experience gearbox difficulty early on. At the 1 hour mark, the team pitted the car for Craig Stanton and picked up 7 spots on pit road due to typical flawless pit stops. Stanton was in 3rd but had to pit for fuel during the 45 minute long caution period. Stanton rejoined in 29th and had an unbelievable drive back up to 13th place with only a handful of green flag laps to execute. With more green flag racing Craig Stanton could have made his way back to the top 5 potentially, but the Porsches clearly had nothing for the M3s and Mustangs at Daytona.

BGB Motorsports is an ambitious, professional Motorsports business. Last year BGB Motorsports won the 6 hour VIR finale, securing the manufacturers title for Porsche Cars North America. Based in Daytona Beach, Florida, the team operates as a customer-oriented business, running cars under the Grand Am Cup, SCCA and Porsche Club of America sanctioning bodies.
