BGB
MOTORSPORTS FINISHES
ON THE PODIUM AT MID OHIO
#83 AND #38 PORSCHE
996s SIT
3rd AND 4th IN TEAM POINTS
For Immediate Release
(DAYTONA BEACH, FL - JUNE 26, 2006) BGB Motorsports again
showed that they have what it takes to run multiple competitive
cars in the Grand-Am Cup series. The #38 Porsche carried
Mark Plummer and Craig Stanton to the penultimate step of
the podium, while teammates Mikel Miller and Tim Traver came
up through a stout GS field twice to finish 8th. These are
the type of strong finishes that enable the team to occupy
the 3rd and 4th spots in the 2006 Grand-Am Cup Team Championship.
For the 2nd year in a row, BGB had the support of Red Capital
Group, a Columbus, Ohio based provider of debt and equity
capital. BGB promised to give Red Capital Group the exposure
they were looking for and they delivered. Mark Plummer started
his #38 Porsche 996 from the 3rd row and wasted little time.
Plummer moved into 3rd by the 1st lap and took over the helm
on lap 10. After leading for about 14 laps or so Plummer
settled into 2nd place leaving the fight for his codriver
Craig Stanton. A well executed pit stop and strategy brought
the #38 Porsche in from 2nd place and sent it back out in
the same spot, inches behind the race leader. Craig Stanton
then began to take the fight to series points leader Spencer
Pumpelly in the #49 Porsche 997 and did so with amazing execution.
BGB was back in the lead on lap 58 but a hard charging Bill
Auberlen in a very powerful M3 took it from them. Stanton
executed an amazing pass on a restart into turn 1 for the
lead but Auberlen took it back again. A late race caution
relegated the team to a 2nd place finish.
Drivers of the #38 Red Capital Group 996 had more to add: “Finally,” Plummer
said. “We've been trying so hard. The guys at the shop
have been working on this car day-in and day-out. All I can
say is finally. Everybody deserves it.” “The
race was great,” contributed Stanton. “Mark had
a great opening stint, we just didn't have much for the BMW.
We're going to continue on. Today's a good day for points.
Bill and I diced there for six or seven laps, but I wanted
to save something for the end, and I think we did. Once again,
the crew is just awesome. We gelled one step above where
we've been all year. Life is good at Mid-Ohio, we're moving
onto the next race, and I'm proud to be with these guys.”
Tim Traver started his #83 SimpleNet.com Porsche from the
11th spot on the grid. Traver’s codriver Mikel Miller
had been fast all weekend so the crew decided to do an early
driver change that shadowed that of the race winning Turner
M3. BGB knew that Miller would have the speed to cover Turner.
Miller rejoined the pack in 39th place and started his run.
When the 2nd full course caution occurred, Miller pitted
from 7th place to rejoin the field in 24th. The BGB two stop
strategy was spoiled when the #83 was hit for the 2nd time
this year by one of the Playboy Racing Nissans. The contact
required an extra front tire costing the team valuable track
position. A determined Miller came up through the field again
to finish 8th and could have advanced more if not for a late
race caution. Mikel received the Bernheim Hard Charger Award
at Ohio for his performance at Lime Rock. While Tim started
the #83 from the 5th row, Mikel easily passed enough cars
to win two hard charger awards.
Tape delay television coverage will be available on Speed
TV on July 9th at 11:00am. BGB Motorsports is an ambitious, professional Motorsports
