BGB
BATTLES THE HEAT IN PHOENIX
NOT EVEN 120 DEGREE
TRACK TEMPS
CAN KEEP BGB FROM FINISHING AT PHOENIX
For Immediate Release
(PHOENIX, Ariz. (May 22, 2006) -- Track temperatures soared
to 120 Degrees and the track surface offered little or no
grip, but BGB Motorsports held on for three very respectable
7th, 10th and 18th place finishes.
Mark Plummer was behind
the wheel of the No. 38 Porsche Carrera after qualifying
on the front row, and drove a smart, fast pace to keep
himself in that position and in contention during his stint.
Tim Traver in the No. 83 SimpleNet.com 996 started behind
Plummer when the No. 175 Porsche 996 was penalized and moved
to the back for illegal suspension modifications. Tim slotted
in behind Plummer and ran a comfortable 3rd during his stint
before his scheduled pit stop. Ted Ballou started the No.
84 Rhinestone
Roxy /Car Doctor World Porsche in 20th position, and ran
a solid stint, on an unfamiliar track to keep himself in
touch with the lead pack, and to preserve the brakes and
tires for his co-driver, Ryan Pilla.
In a race that saw no
full course cautions, all 3 drivers were forced to run
as quickly as possible, while making certain that they could
get as close to the halfway point of the race for their
pit stop. First in was Mark Plummer in the No. 38 car, handing
driving duties over to Craig Stanton, who rejoined in 12th
place. Next in was Tim Traver in the No. 83 car, handing
over to Mikel Miller. Miller rejoined in 13th, running
laps as fast as the lead cars, but unable to capitalize due
to traffic and the relentless heat. Mikel worked his way
up to 10th where he finished. Ryan Pilla took over for Ted
Ballou and continued his adaptation to the Porsche.
Craig
Stanton in the No. 38 ran hard, keeping in touch with the
top 5, as he and Miller circulated at speeds that matched
those of the top 5. Ryan Pilla fought with backmarkers
and traffic, showing well on an unfamiliar track and extreme
heat. The final finishing order was Plummer and Stanton
in the No. 38 car in 7th, Traver and Miller in the No. 83
finishing 10th and Ballou and Pilla coming home in 18th.
At one point, Pilla was one of the fastest cars on the track;
as Pilla and Ballou continue to learn the 996, they'll be
front runners for sure.
The next race in the 3 race road trip
will be at Lime Rock Park, on Memorial Day, Monday May
29th at 10:05 am.
