BGB
ON FRONT ROW AGAIN
FOR GRAND AM CUP
PHOENIX QUALIFYING
NEARLY A REPEAT
PERFORMANCE OF LAGUNA SECA
For Immediate Release
(PHOENIX, AZ-May 11, 2006) In what is looking like a near
identical result to their qualifying performance at Laguna
Seca less than a week ago, Mark Plummer and Tim Traver qualified
their cars in 2nd and 5th positions, respectively. With only
a 30 minute session prior to the 15 minute qualifying session
this evening, the team worked efficiently to get all 3 BGB
Motorsports Porsche 996s dialed in for the tight Phoenix
'Roval'.
Luckily, the session went off without a hitch, with
no full course cautions to further reduce the already limited
practice time.
During the 15 minute qualifying session,
traffic would again force the drivers to make their own gaps,
and find a clear lap around the tight, twisting track. As
in Laguna, they were able to do so. Mark Plummer, in the
#38 BGB Porsche 996, turned in a lap time of 1:07.713 for
an 80.280 mile per hour average speed. After getting out
of the car, Plummer had more to add: "The car was perfect, it didn't give
me any surprises anywhere around the track, and I felt that
the car would require little in the way of changes for tomorrow's
30 minute practice session and Saturday's race."
Tim Traver, in the #83 Simplenet.com Porsche, surpassed
last weekend's personal best qualifying of 6th to qualify
the car in the 3rd row and start 5th with a lap time of
1:07.778 and an average speed of 80.203 miles per hour.
Ted
Ballou took the qualifying duties this weekend in the #84
Rhinestone Roxy / Car Doctor World Porsche 996. Just like
his teammates, he battled some heavy traffic, and was balked
by slower cars a few times, but still managed to turn a
lap time of 1:09.018, for an average speed of 78.762 miles
per hour. Ted felt that, with a bit less traffic, and some
breaks from some of the slower cars, he would have improved
further.
All three cars have a 30 minute practice session
tomorrow at 2:15PM, which will give a final opportunity
to sort any issues that the team needs to address before
Saturday's 200 mile race. The green flag for the Grand-Am
Cup Avondale Mazda 200 drops at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May
13th with live timing and scoring and a live web cast available
at http://grandamerican.vfx.com/Rolex/GrandAmerican_800.asp,
and tape-delay TV coverage at 1:00PM ET on Speed TV, May
14th.
