BGB
ON FRONT ROW FOR
LAGUNA GRAND-AM CUP RACE
TRAVER EXECUTES
CAREER BEST
QUALIFYING OF 6th
For Immediate Release
(MONTERY, CA-May 7, 2006) As was the intention, BGB Motorsports
will start their Porsches in the top 10 for Saturday’s
Grand-Am Cup 200, with the #38 Porsche 996 sitting outside
pole. This afternoon’s 15 minute Grand Am Cup GS qualifying
session began with a hiccup as the VIR winners in the #33
Playboy Nissan went off course on the opening lap. Once the
track and tire wall were cleared, and the session started,
Mark Plummer began to put together another one of his fantastic
qualifying efforts in the #38 BGB Motorsports Porsche 996.
Following closely was Tim Traver in the #83 SimpleNet.com
Porsche 996, as the two proceeded to manage traffic. At one
point it was an all BGB Motorsports front row but just like
some things in life, all good things come to an end. It was
still very much a victory for the team though as Mark Plummer
rounded the 2.24 mile road course with a time of 1:39.361,
which stood as pole position time until the waning minutes
of the session. Plummer will still have the luxury of starting
on the front row for tomorrow’s race. Tim Traver secured
his 6th place qualifying position with his best lap of 1:39.848.
Ryan
Pilla unfortunately encountered an ABS problem early in the
session in the #84 Rhinestone Roxy / Car Doctor Porsche 996.
Pilla will start a respectable 29th place with a car that
was hampered by brake issues as he finessed the car around
the notoriously twisty, hilly circuit with a best time of
1:41.943. Ryan did an excellent job managing the Porsche
considering the conditions. A street stock Porsche with no
ABS is near impossible to drive when it’s hindered
by excessive front wheel lockup. Pilla managed a clean lap
to give him some good track position for Saturday’s
race with the hopes of delivering a good car to his codriver
Ted Ballou.
Mark Plummer driver of the #38 BGB Porsche had
more to add: “We
struggled pretty badly yesterday and today setup-wise,” Plummer
said. “We worked out a plan during lunch and made some
changes for qualifying, and we had another car like we had
at Daytona where we were on the pole for a while. We’ve
got a great package for tomorrow and I have the best co-driver
out there, so we’re pretty excited.”
Tim Traver, driver of the #83 SimpleNet.com Porsche was
all smiles: “I’m stoked. I am up front and in
a position to deliver my car in a good spot to my codriver
Mikel Miller. The car is very fast as is Mikel at this track.
I look forward to Saturday’s race.”
The green flag for the Grand-Am Cup 200 drops at 2:45 pm
on Saturday, May 6th with live timing and scoring and a
live web cast available at http://grandamerican.vfx.com/Rolex/GrandAmerican_800.asp.
