BGB
READY TO CAPITALIZE ON
GOOD WEST COAST KARMA
BALLOU SIGNED AS
FULL SEASON
FIXTURE TO DRIVE WITH PILLA
For Immediate Release
(Daytona Beach, FL-May 5, 2006) With only 12 laps of green
flag racing at last weekend’s VIR 200, many teams sustained
damage; BGB was one of them. The team had three days to prepare
their three cars, one of which needed a few new panels and
paintwork. As they have shown in times past, the guys in
the shop at BGB can deliver and they have again. On Thursday
the transporter was loaded with the three BGB 996s and ready
to head to Laguna Seca. BGB is looking forward to a successful
return to the left coast where the team had their best qualifying
runs last year at both Laguna Seca and Phoenix. The team
expects to improve on their two 6th place starts last year
- striving for a position on the pole, followed with a race
win.
Stealing some of the thunder from their teammates are
Tim Traver and Mikel Miller in the #83 SimpleNet.com Porsche
996. Traver and Miller sit in 3rd place in team points
and 4th in driver points. The two drivers have more laps
at Laguna Seca than at any other race track. Traver is a
regular at Laguna Seca with the Skip Barber series while
Miller reports for work there weekly as a Skip Barber instructor.
The duo will continue their strategy of finishing strong
and clean. This strategy has paid off with their strong driver
points standings, and is expected to ensure their continued
advancement in the points.
Craig Stanton and Mark Plummer
will continue their search for their first win of 2006 which
eluded them at Daytona, and again at VIR. Stanton is looking
forward to racing on his home soil: “I’m excited about Laguna. I really
enjoy racing there and with BGB. We’re still hunting
for that win and I think it’s within our reach.” Mark
Plummer’s best qualifying effort of 2005 occurred first
at Laguna Seca and then Phoenix. He enjoys the track and
is ready to put the #38 BGB Porsche 996 up front for Saturday’s
race.
A new face will be seen in the BGB paddock this weekend
and for the duration of the season. Ted Ballou joined BGB
Motorsports at the 2006 test days in the #84 Rhinestone Roxy/HiDefSpex/Car
Doctor World Porsche 996. When BGB announced their intention
to campaign a 3rd 996, Ballou was one of the first to voice
his interest. Ballou commented, “I had a great time
with the team at the Test Days. They run a great operation
and you can tell that they’ve taken the time to select
their group of individuals.” Ballou originally intended
to race this season in the IMSA Cup series running a GT3
Cup car, but prefers the endurance racing format and the
BGB Motorsports organization. With many laps at Laguna Seca,
Ballou will be a strong competitor in this race. While his
co-driver Ryan Pilla cannot match Ballou’s extensive
experience at Laguna Seca, Pilla’s momentum style of
driving at a multitude of tracks will serve him well in Laguna
Seca’s exciting race.
The green flag for the Grand-Am
Cup 200 drops at 2:45 pm on Saturday, May 6th with live
timing and scoring and a live web cast available at http://grandamerican.vfx.com/Rolex/GrandAmerican_800.asp.
