BGB
Motorsports Reflects on
2006 Daytona Opener
STRONG DRIVES BY
BOTH PORSCHES
HAVE TEAM EXCITED FOR 2006
For Immediate Release
(Daytona Beach, FL-January 28, 2006) After the completion
of a very successful three days at the Daytona Test Days
that showed #38 and #83 Porsche 996s posting the first and
fifth quickest lap times respectively for the entire six
session test, the team returned to Daytona for the opening
round of the 2006 Grand-Am Cup season.
Thursday evening’s qualifying session for the GS class
showed again the speed of the team’s two Porsches.
Mark Plummer driving the #38 RUF Auto Centre Porsche 996
qualified on pole with his teammate Tim Traver in the #83
Simplenet.com Porsche 996 2 rows behind him in 5th. The qualifying
celebration was all too short lived though as both cars would
be forced to start from the back of the enormous 47 car GS
field.
When the green flag fell it was business as usual for
the BGB crew. In his typical fashion Mark Plummer drove
around nearly every single competitor so that he could pit
from 2nd place to hand off the car to his 2006 co-driver
Craig Stanton. Quick work in the pits sent the #38 Porsche
out in 9th place. Stanton enjoyed a fantastic battle up front
with the podium attendees until he took the lead on lap
51. It looked as if the team would be vindicated until a
premature fuel stumble mandated a late race splash for fuel.
Meanwhile
Tim Traver enjoyed a hard charge of his own as he pitted
the #83 Simplenet.com Porsche from 5th place to hand off
to his season long co-driver Mikel Miller. Apparently both
car and driver were determined to find the front of the
field. Miller would continue to drive the car from 27th up
to 8th place until he too was forced to go into fuel conservation
mode.
The closing laps of the race saw nearly every single
Porsche drop from the front as fuel became a much needed
commodity. When the dust settled it was the #83 Porsche
996 in 15th place with the #38 Porsche 996 closely behind
in 20th
“I’m really impressed with everyone on the team
and how they handled everything this weekend. The team continues
to mature and gel and I think that wins for both cars are
within our grasp this year. We have a strong driver lineup
and a team that will not quit. Unbelievable drives for both
cars,” added team manager John Tecce.

the BGB Porsches steal the show.
