Porsche
996s Top Time Sheets
at Grand-Am Cup Daytona Test
For Immediate Release
(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. January 9, 2006) -- After showing
lots of potential in 2005, BGB Motorsports signals that it
is approaching the 2006 season with very serious intentions.
At the end of three days of testing at Daytona, BGB's #38
and #83 Porsche 996s had posted the first and fifth quickest
lap times respectively for the entire six session test.
Piloted
by young Mark Plummer and last year's Rolex GT Driver's
Championship winner, Craig Stanton, BGB's #38 Porsche stopped
the clock for a lap time of 2:01.900--an average of 105.135
miles per hour around the 3.56 mile circuit--in Saturday's
morning session. That time held as the best overall during
the test days for Grand Am Cup cars. Tim Traver and Mikel
Miller posted a 2:02.626 in BGB's #83 SimpleNet.com sponsored
entry during Saturday's afternoon final session, good for
quick lap of the session and fifth best lap time overall
for the three day event.
"I can't tell you how proud I am of how well the team
is coming together", said team owner John Moore. "Our
technical director Quinn Conda has put a lot of time and
passion into figuring out how to make these cars go fast
during the off-season. While this is only a test, I hope
it shows us how much potential we have as a team. I must
also say how exited I am about our driver line-up. John Tecce,
our Team Manager, has put together a formidable roster of
quick, smart drivers for 2006. By convincing "perennial" champion
Craig Stanton to join young Mark Plummer in our #38, he has
given us a true championship-caliber driving team to put
behind the wheel of BGB's impeccably prepared race car. Tecce
also deserves kudos for signing SimpleNet.com and the Traver/Miller
duo who showed their potential to challenge for a championship
as well this weekend. I hope that their showing this weekend
will convince SimpleNet.com that they should expand their
5-race commitment to a full season campaign for Tim and Mike
to challenge for the championship...but, if they don't, all
I can do is thank them for showing that the BGB #83 is the
car to want if you are serious about running up front."
"It is a great group and I know we are capable of great
things", concluded Team Owner Moore. "But, we also
have to remember that, while we saw our cars go fast at the
test, there's a lot more needed to end up on the top of the
podium at the end of the month. We have to continue to come
together as team, work on communication and be prepared to
have the best pit stops and race strategy. There are a bunch
of very high-quality teams--who may not have "shown
their entire hand" at the test-- that will be playing
for keeps when the green flag drops and we have to be ready.
I know how disappointed we'd all be if, after showing how
quick our car and driver combinations can be, we don't perform
well at the race."
The green flag for the Grand Am Cup 150 drops at 2:15 pm
on Friday, January 27th.
