Porsche Cayman R / Cayman S / Boxster S (09 +)

In addition to already existing solutions from RSS Tuning, Cargraphic, Fabspeed, TPC Racing, Guard Transmission and Porsche Cars North America, several of the following parts were developed at BGB Motorsports for the 2nd generation Porsche Cayman S with the Direct Fuel Injection. The current generation 9A1.MA121 and 9A1.MA121C 3.4 liter engines from Porsche are capable of very impressive power gains.
The following items have been dyno proven and race proven to deliver performance, having survived testing in an endurance racing environment at 100% operating capacity for periods of over 2 hours. Please be sure to visit our "For Build" section to see a complete list of modifications that were used to attempt to make the Porsche Cayman S a competitive race car among the likes of Ford, BMW and Cheverolet whose V8 entries produce nearly 50% more power. In the section about the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series, a link to the current rules can be found at the bottom of the page.
These parts have all been created in an attempt to push the edge of the envelope of an already amazing package from Porsche with one goal in mind and that was achieving 400 horsepower; they truly are marketed towards the owner of the new 2012 Porsche Cayman R or Cayman S that deserves more power for his or her Porsche Cayman support. While many of the parts below are plug and play on most any Boxster or Cayman produced since 2006 as turn-key components, some of the Cayman intake modifications are more involved.
RSS High Performance Tarmac Series suspension components were made legal in May 2010 on the Caymans running in Grand-Am as an attempt to further the car's competitive abilities. With RSS parts on the Cayman since inception, it was a logical next step. They are designed, engineered and manufactured on location here in the USA. RSS Tarmac Series Control Arms are manufactured from 6061 aerospace grade billet aluminum, allowing for a more uniform molecular structure at every point of the arm over the cast motorsports arm giving the customer a more durable and inherently stronger part. Solid monoball control arm ends offer a more responsive suspension over the factory one-piece rubber-injected control arm and inner toe links ends. A unique and proven design provides more gusseting over the motorsports arms for added strength and aesthetically appealing looks.
A partnership that began in 2005, BGB Motorsports has proudly flown the RSS flag above their race program and carries the following RSS components for your Cayman/Boxster/911:
ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN
COMPLETE Cayman S/Boxster S DFI (09 +) Pulley Kit (STREET or RACE) - Designed by BGB Motorsports and Road Sport Supply, this complete pulley kit (shown above) was created from scratch with the primary goal of increasing horsepower and torque while attempting to reduce power steering temperatures and flow sufficient water through your car's system under stressful racing conditions. Incorporates existing double sided seprentine belt from Porsche with no need for additional belt sourcing. Complete underdrive pulley kit includes:
- crank pulley with improved harmonic balancer
- power steering pump pulley
- water pump pulley
- alternator pulley
- RSS A/C Delete Pulley and Bracket Kit (available below for separate purchase)
- CAN BE INSTALLED WITH ENGINE IN/OUT OF CAR!!!
- Current testing under way to guarantee fitment AND realiability for use on all 911 Carrera 3.6 / 3.8 liter engines.
Dyno proven gains of +/- 5 hp and 2 lb./ft of torque. (REQUIRES REMOVAL OF A/C COMPRESSOR BUT NOT ENGINE!). Price: $799.00

A/C Delete Pulley & Bracket Kit (STREET or RACE) - When ordering a new Cayman R/Boxster Spyder without air conditioning from the factory, you are getting a bracket and idler pulley in its place to achieve desired weight savings and remove rotational components. This bracket and idler pulley are very difficult to locate however, so this added component was designed to work either in conjunction with the complete pulley kit above or by itself. Now you can have the same A/C delete idler and bracket (shown at the top of the photo above) as the new Cayman R/Boxster Spyder and the resulting horsepower increase. This was a final step in finding horsepower and achieving performance but this bracket and idler pulley are needed to:
- Remove the A/C compressor
- Remove the A/C condenser
- Remove additional unwanted A/c component parts, hoses, etc. to save weight
- Achieve mild performance increases but improved throttle response
- Incorporate existing double sided seprentine belt from Porsche
(REQUIRES REMOVAL OF A/C COMPRESSOR BUT NOT ENGINE!). Price: $250.00
Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel - This lightweight aluminum flywheel was added to the permitted list of approved Grand-Am modifications for the Cayman last year, in an attempt to reduce rotational weight in the drivetrain and increase the car's acceleration potential given its torque disparity relative to the other much larger V8 cars in the class. This unit has run without failure and is enjoyed by street car customers because of how easy it is to operate around town during street use; it is not one of those flywheels that makes your car impossible to drive for people other than yourself or trained factory Porsche drivers! We recommend that this unit be used in conjunction with a SACHS racing motorsport pressure plate and clutch disc also from Aasco Performance in Anaheim, California. Most unique thing above everything is that this actual aluminum flywheel is equipped with a replaceable heat-treated steel insert (as shown below), thus reducing the need to have the unit sent out for resurfacing and then the required balancing. Cold Air Intake Sound
INTAKE (STREET OR RACE) WARNING! While the mid-engine platform of the Cayman and Boxster may make for an agile package, it leaves very little area for fresh air to feed the engine. Unlike the 911, the mid-engine Porsche platform's engine is forced to breath through the small intake hole or gills located behind the driver's side door. The 911 benefits from an enormous amount of fresh, forced air at speed running down the rear window glass and into the engine bay, while the Cayman is almost suffocating. When driving in hot conditions this can lead to excessive engine bay heat and will eventually lead to horsepower and torque losses, especially in an endurance racing environment. Something had to be done to get more air to the engine and keep things cool. When it comes to Porsches, more air usually equates to more horsepower, so we went to work.
While swapping out the factory Porsche air filter and some of the internals of the factory Porsche air box produced moderate gains, significant horsepower and torque gains were only achieved by removing the entire factory air box components and installing our own larger components. Very little has been available thus far for Porsche Cayman/Boxster traditional "cold air intake" kits because to make true power gains, a substantial amount of air needs to be introduced, which is not possible without removing the air box. Not normally a big task if you could remove the air box easily without dropping the engine, but tThe tiny hands and patience required will drive most anyone mad. It's for these reasons that we tell our customers that the Stage 1 and Stage 2 intake systems were designed and isntalled with the engine out of the car. Every car's fitment is a bit more different than most people think and while executing this without dropping the engine is not impossible, we don't suggest trying it.
BMC Filter (STREET or RACE) - Improved higher flowing filter element. Installing this drop-in, higher flowing filter will produce minimal horsepower gains, but still gains. In racing, every tiny single advantageous part must be used and this is a true drop-in racing filter element that guarantees delivery on additional power gains being added to the package. Dyno proven gains of +/- 2 hp/1 lb.ft. Price: $123.00

Cold Air Intake - Stage 1 (STREET or RACE) - While still street legal and executable without dropping the car's engine, this first stage intake system uses a revised washable and reusable cone shaped K&N filter element, larger diameter and better flowing air intake tube and the remaining OEM factory Cayman S/Boxster S intake system from the throttle body aft. Developed to be in spec of the current Grand-Am rules which prohibit cars from manipulating the OEM spec throttle body, the OEM airbox and air filter are removed and discarded, as they are very restrictive and no longer needed. Dyno proven gains of +/- 10 hp/and 7 lb.ft. Price: $750.00
Cold Air Intake - Stage 2 (STREET or RACE) - Requiring additional rules concessions, gains in horsepower and substantial gains in torque were achieved over the Stage 1 intake by using an alternate throttle body and manifold from the current generation 911 with the 3.8 Carrera S engine. Producing large gains over stock and while only 8hp more than Stage 1, MOST importantly, horsepower production from 7200RPM thru 7500RPM went from ZERO to numbers that shocked even those that designed it. Dyno proven gains of +/- 20 hp and 13 lb./ft. Price: $1950.00 (SUGGESTED ENGINE REMOVAL FOR REDUCED INSTALL/FITMENT ISSUES)
Currently in development for mass production and distribution, the Stage 2 intake kit is available now in existing prototype form. (NOTE: While a kit, this application will require some additional modification and is intended to be as turn-key as possible but every situation and car are unique). Kit includes:
- Large K&N cone filter
- Custom fabricated velocity stack
- Larger 4" intake pipe
- Larger diameter Carrera S 3.8 liter throttle body from
Porsche
- Cayman/Boxster to 911 aluminum adapter pipe (removes need to lower the engine as was the issue with some early Cayman 3.8 conversions)
- Carrera S 3.8 liter intake manifold cross-section with single resonance flap
- Cayman/Boxster to 911 breather hose to connect all original Cayman/Boxster breather or vacuum lines
ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE UPGRADES
Limited Slip Differential - The the 2012 Porsche Cayman R and some 2010 and newer Porsche Cayman S and Boxster S cars came equipped from Porsche with a factory limited slip differential. While sufficient for road use and light track driving, the Cayman/Boxster chassis produces a fair amount of wheelspin when exiting corners and therefore, a proper motorsport limited slip differential is mandatory.
BGB Motorsports has been running Guard Transmission limited slip differentials in their Porsche race cars since 2006. During 2010 and 2011, BGB worked closely with Guard Transmission to refine the Caymans unique differential setup and has had much success in doing so. The differential is available from Guard Transmission in a 4 or 6 plate package with varying lockup percentages on power/coast of 50/80, 80/80 and 60/40 or 40/60. Price: $CALL
ECU FILES - Remapped ECU file for desired fuel and custom rev limit. Estimated gains of +/- 15 hp and 10 lb./ft of torque DEPENDING on existing components. Price: $1499.00.
Big Bore DFI 3.8 Carrera S Conversion - The 2nd generation Carrera S 3.8 DFI engine delivers 385 horsepower and 311 lb./ft. of torque and with some minor modiciations, can be installed into any 2nd generation 987.2 Porsche Cayman S or Boxster S. The additional inclusion of any of the above parts listed on this page are sure to guarantee that this Cayman or Boxster will be untouched on the race track during your next local track day event.
